According to the Turnkey Team Brand Index(TTBI), the Green Bay Packers are the number one team for fan loyalty among 122 sports teams (NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL). This was taken based on last season’s performance and a big reason for this is that they still had Brett Favre.

In the top 20, there were 7 NFL teams, 3 MLB teams, 5 NHL teams and 5 NBA teams. The Boston Celtics had the biggest jump from 104th place last year to 9th this year basically because of their championship win. People from Boston do love their fans and for a good reason: Boston teams are winning. That’s why it’s no wonder that three out of the top 20 teams are from Boston (Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots).

As for the bottom teams, four out of the five teams are from the NBA. Since the survey was taken before the start of the season, one of those teams is the Seattle Supersonics (now the Oklahoma City Thunder). I am very curious to how much the people of Oklahoma are supportive of their new team. Will they be a top brand next year with their top three (Durant, Green and Westbrook) running the show or will they still be in the bottom?

Top 20 Best Teams

‘08 Rank ‘07 Rank Team
1 10 Green Bay Packers
2 5 Boston Red Sox
3 1 Pittsburgh Steelers
4 2 New England Patriots
5 3 Indianapolis Colts
6 8 Detroit Red Wings
7 6 San Antonio Spurs
8 20 Pittsburgh Penguins
9 104 Boston Celtics
10 9 St. Louis Cardinals
11 7 New Orleans Saints
12 74 Montreal Canadiens
13 4 Buffalo Sabres
14 79 New Orleans Hornets
15 36 Jacksonville Jaguars
16 11 Detroit Tigers
17 15 Detroit Pistons
18 28 Dallas Cowboys
19 14 Cleveland Cavaliers
20 71 Carolina Hurricanes

I have no crystal ball of anything to guess the future but maybe the move to Oklahoma City can get them out of the bottom teams based on fan support/marketability. I’m guessing that New York will be in the top 50 next year because 1.) New York is a BIG market 2.) D’Antoni and Walsh have got New York running and 3.) Isaiah Thomas is gone.

Bottom 5 Worst Teams

‘08 Rank ‘07 Rank Team
118 11 New York Islanders
119 112 Indiana Pacers
120 108 New Jersey Nets
121 106 New York Knicks
122 120 Seattle Supersonics*

  2. I’ll give them a C for effort, even though, because MacFarlane’s exhibits are overwhelmingly for a white audience, and they try to balance the awful writing and jokes by way of a few black voice actors (Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long of whom I am a big fan as well, but Cleveland is voiced by a decrepit white actor). But for this year, the exhibit is just so horrible.this
