Amar’e Stoudemire says wake up

Amare Stoudemire for boost.org

Amare Stoudemire for boost.org

While surfing sites I cam across this google ad of boost.org and Amar’e Stoudemire was their endorser. It intrigued me so I clicked on it and it led me to a page where there was the pic of Amar’e and two boxes. The first was had “wake-up calls” on it while the other one had “ringtone alarms.” What does this mean? It first looked like a regular site where you can have free ringtones but it was more than that. According to their site,

Boost is a project to get people talking to teens about their graduation. Four out of ten high school kids in America don’t from graduate high school. It’s a statistic that’s not only appalling, but silent.
Anything you can do to show support is a boost. It can be a conversation, a text message, a slap on the back, an email, or helping hand. There are a lot of teens who could use one.

So there you have it, Amar’e says “Wake Up!” Download one of Amare’s custom Boost Up alarm ringtones, or schedule a call from Amar’e to wake up a friend for school.

Reasons Why the Phoenix Suns Will and Wont Make the playoff

The Phoenix Suns are now on the outside looking in for the first time since Steve Nash arrived in Phoenix in the summer of 2004. They’re trailing the Dallas Mavericks, who’s in 8th place, by 4 games but things have been positive with the Suns’ recent win steak. Making the playoffs for the Suns is reachable but it won’t be easy. Here are some reasons why they will make the playoff and why they won’t.

Why the Suns will make the playoff:

  • Steve Nash will play like old Stevie
  • I don’t mean like an old Steve Nash, which was how he was playing under the system of Terry Porter. What I mean is playing like his MVP seasons. We all know that he is the quarterback of the Suns and they’re a completely different team without him. I still think that he should have been voted in the All Star team if it weren’t for Terry Porter. (more…)

Pregnant Candace Parker on ESPN cover

Candace Parker Pregnant

Candace Parker Pregnant

I would have to agree with Robert Littal of BSO that “sports media as whole tend to focus too much on the negative figures in the sports world.” We always see the drama of Stephon Marbury in the NBA, T.O. in the NFL and more more. What about those positive figures? Good thing there’s Candace Parker, the star of the LA Sparks. She is expecting a baby this spring. Baby?? Candace Parker having a baby?? What about basketball?? Dwayne Wade hits a three point buzzer beater against the Bulls

March 11, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Basketball Videos

Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat hits a buzzer beating three pointer after a steal against the Chicago BUlls. Man oh man! This star has been such a great player this year not only for the Heat but for those who drafted and gambled on him after an injury plagued season last year. Look out Chris Paul! Dwayne Wade is just a few steps away from taking your number one fantasy spot. More on that next time but first, here’s the Miami Heat-Chicago Bulls recap and Wade’s buzzer beater.

Rudy Fernandez hospitalized after hard foul by Ariza

March 10, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Basketball Videos

This 2009 NBA season we have seen a myriad of injured – torn ACLs, collapsed lungs and many more and now we have Rudy Fernandez taking a hard fall. As he was on his way to a dunk, the Portland Trailblazers’ guard was fouled by Trevor Ariza, who was slapped with a flagrant foul call and should face a suspension. Fernandez was conscious after but was carried on a stretcher and brought to the hospital. This was precautionary as Fernandez was feeling some chest pains. We just hope that he comes back soon. Speedy recovery Rudy!

Go (David) West

March 07, 2009 By: Ongai Category: David West, Player Analysis

David West

David West

David West of the New Orleans Hornets had an all star year last year after averaging 20.6 points and 8.6 rebounds while also giving good numbers across the board. This year he was voted to play in the All star game again but some, including me, doubted that he deserved to be in that roster with others players still being available. He is still averaging 20 points and 8 rebounds this season but ironically, his stats increased and only became that way after the all star game.

In the games after the all star game, David West has been averaging 24.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, on 48.9% from the field and 84.7% from the line. Add the 3.6 assists and 1.2 to these great stats and now he has been a top 25 performer the last 20 days.

The Hornets have really benefited from this explosion of David West and together with the resurgence of Tyson Chandler they’re on a six game winning streak right now. They look like contenders in the West again just like how they were last year and they could go far as long as their star point guard, Chris Paul, and David West are healthy.

In a fantasy basketball perspective, congratulations if you were able to buy this guy at a cheap price before the all star break. Great patience also if you believed in him and didn’t trade this guy for someone not that worthy. Enjoy this production as he could carry your team a long way too come the fantasy basketball playoffs.

As long as he keeps this going and the Hornets keep on winning, I think this will be enough to convince me that he really deserved to be in that All Star team. Forget it, he really deserves it.

Fantasy Basketball Tip: Rank those players right

March 02, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Fantasy Basketball, Fantasy Basketball Tips

There are those people who are just fantasy basketball addicts that they’re online most of the day and they try to make sure they get the best player available at once. While this is good for them, they might not be getting the best player available.

You see what most people do if they’re playing in Yahoo’s fantasy basketball format is that they just go to the rankings column and they sort by “rank” (not o-rank). Yes you will most likely get the best available player based on the whole season’s stats and you could get a player that can save your season but I’m pretty sure that there are more players out there that should be in your lineup. Take note that this ranking is for the whole season but what if you’d like to know who has been hot the past month or may be even the past week? Let me show you. (more…)
