nba playoffs 2009: day 9
We have got two teams battling it out against each other and making their series a playoff classic. I’m talking about the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls. It has got to be the most exciting series this year right?
Another series that’s looking really exciting is the one between the Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers have won their two games on game winning shots as the Magic are having a hard time closing out games. But in game 4, it looks like the Magic can also hit the game winning shot.
The Houston Rockets and the Portland Trailblazers are also battling it out but it seems that experience is really key in the playoff and the Rockets have a lot of it compared to the young Trailblazers.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons match up is officially the most boring series this year. Why?
Simply because he just dominated the Pistons and they didn’t have any answer for Lebron James and the much improved supporting cast.
(2) Orlando Magic VS (7) Philadelphia 76ers
Series tied at 2-2
Hedo Turkoglu, who has been playing poorly in the playoff due to an injured ankle, hit a big three pointer with 1.1 seconds left in the game to help the Orlando Magic beat the Philadelphia 76ers 84-81. It was a big shot for Turkoglu as he clearly has lost confidence in his game since the injury.
“The coach had confidence in me,” said Turkoglu, who has just hit 7-for-30 from the floor in the series. “He called a play for me and I’m just glad I made it.”
(2) Boston Celtics VS (7) Chicago Bulls
Series tied at 2-2
This series is a thriller. If you found the first three games exciting, what do you call the fourth game? This game went into double overtime and the Bulls went on to win 121-118. Ben Gordon lead the Bulls with 22 points and he made the tying three pointer in first overtime.
“Everybody I’m talking to is saying this is the most exciting series that they’re watching right now,” Gordon said.
Gordon also had help from rookie of the year Derrick Rose who had 23 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
For the Celtics, Rajon Rondo had another triple double with 25 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists while playing on an injured foot. Paul Pierce had 29 while Ray Allen, who made a three pointer with 9.8 seconds to tie it at 96 all, had 28 points. But it wasn’t enough to finish off the running Bulls.
(4) Portland Trailblazers VS (5) Houston Rockets
Houston leads series 3-1
The Houston Rockets escape another game against the young Trailblazers, 89-88. Yao Ming led the Rockets with 21 points and 12 rebounds while Shane Battier helped the Rockets with his threes in the last four minutes. The Rockets snapped a 6-game losing streak in game 4s.
Brandon Roy of the Blazers had 31 points and went 13-13 from the free throw line but that wasn’t enough to help them win this one. But the series isn’t over for them as they try to steal one at home on Tuesday night in Portland.
“It’s not over until they win four games,” McMillan said. “We’ve been close in two games here, so it’s a one-game season for us.”
(1) Cleveland Cavaliers VS (8) Detroit Pistons
Cavaliers wins series 4-0
This series can be summed up in three Bs: Blowout, Boring and Black Eyed-Pistons. King James was just dominant in the whole series especially in this fourth game where he scored 36 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists and what was nice was that he made 16-17 shots from the line to help the Cavaliers win 99-78.
“You’re only born with a certain amount of gifts,” he said. “You have to take advantage of them, and put in the work. My work ethic has helped me be the player I am today.”
Mo Williams bounced back from a terrible game three to score 24 points.
