nba playoffs 2009: day 29

May 20, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Playoffs

With minutes left in the first game between the LA Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, it sure looked like the Nuggets could hold on and stop their ten game playoff losing streak against the Lakers. That looked possible until Kobe Bryant and Trevor Ariza took over.

Kobe, who finished with 40 points, made six free throws in the last thirty seconds to help the Lakers escape the Nuggets 105-103. Ariza also played big down the stretch as he made a three in the last two minutes and stole an inbound pass off Anthony Carter, which led to Kobe going to the free throw line for two.

“He threw the ball and gave me just enough air to go get it,” Ariza said of Anthony Carter. “That’s all it took.”

It was a painful loss for the Nuggets as they got big time production from Carmelo Anthony, who scored 39 points. They also led by as much as 13 in the first half and 7 in the second.

Game 2 will be Thursday at the Staples Center and the Nuggets will try to make this an even series.

What do you think? Will the Nuggets be able to tie the series or will the Nuggets go home 0-2?
