nba playoffs 2009: day 26

May 14, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Uncategorized

Everyone knew that the Denver Nuggets were going to be an emotional team coming into game 5 of their series with the Dallas Mavericks. This was after the off court incident between Kenyon Martin’s mom Lydia Moore and Mavs owner Mark Cuban. It was settled as Cuban apologized but the Nuggets had to settle something else. They had to finish the series. (more…)

The Cleveland Cavaliers just became the first team to go undefeated in the first round since the 2005 Miami Heat. They swept the Detroit Pistons in the first round and they just beat the Hawks 84-74 to sweep the series in the second round.

Lebron James, as usual, was just in another level but this time not in scoring but in getting his teammates involved. (more…)

Nuggets and Cavaliers are just dominating

Finally, Lebron James won the MVP award and he proved why in the first game as they crushed the Atlanta Hawks 99-72. James showed it as early as the first quarter where he took a charge on a fast break.

“An MVP taking a charge on the break?” Cavs guard Mo Williams said. “That’s amazing. You get that effort from him, how could I not take a charge? The whole night was about him and he came out and showed why he is the MVP—in the first quarter.” (more…)

Another series is over as the Dallas Mavericks finished off the San Antonio Spurs with a 106-93 win to end the series at 4-1. This win ends streaks for both sides as Dallas advances past the first round for the first time since 2006 while the Spurs are eliminated in the first round for the first time since 2000.

Dwight Howard was just dominant in the Orlando Magic’s 91-78 win over the Philadelphia 76ers to take a 3-2 lead. He had 24 points and a career playoff-high 24 rebounds that led to not only a win but a coaching feud between the two coaches.

Brandon Roy played like a champion as he was really sick and just had to take an IV shot prior to game 5. No problem here as he scored 25 points to lead the Blazers to a 88-77 win to avoid elimination.

“I’ve been involved in games when I didn’t feel well and played well. Some nights when guys come in under the weather they play their best games. And Brandon had one of (more…)

nba playoffs 2009: day 7 and 8

April 27, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Playoffs

Apologies for the late posts the past two days since I was out of town and didn’t have any internet access. So what I will do here since most of you must have already read what happened in the games, I will just include the videos.

I feel bad that I had to miss the exciting games this weekend especially the game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Orlando Magic. That series is turning into one of this year’s exciting match ups as we’ve seen two game winning plays by the 76ers. While the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons match up is just plain boring. Good thing this guy named Lebron is exciting to watch but the match up itself is zzzzzzz.

Finally the New Orleans Hornets won a game but it wasn’t a convincing game that would really scare the Denver Nuggets. But a win is a win and they’ll take that and hopefully they could build momentum from that win. As for the LA Lakers, it looks like they’re back on track after losing a game to the Utah Jazz.

One of the match ups I like this year is that of the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs. I’m rooting for the Mavericks here even if they indirectly ousted my favorite team, the Phoenix Suns. Miami Heat, after losing the first game, looks to have found the solution to beat the young Atlanta Hawks. Dwayne Wade has been playing well and so is playoff veteran Jermain O’neal.

So sit back, relax, grab your favorite drink and enjoy watching the videos: (more…)

In Day 3 of the NBA Playoffs, the Chicago Bulls almost had a 2-0 lead against defending champion Boston Celtics but Ray Allen spoiled it. Great shot for Allen and you should definitely see the recap below. In the other game, it was an easy win for the San Antonio Spurs, who are playing without Manu Ginobili. (more…)

NBA Playoffs 2009: Day 1

April 19, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Playoffs

In the first day of the 2009 NBA Playoffs we saw a lot of firsts. We saw all star point guard Brandon Roy get his first playoff basket. We also saw D-Rose having the poise and leadership to play like a veteran and lead his team to victory. A great game between the Mavericks and the Spurs was also shown where the Mavericks won for the first time on the road in the playoff since 2006.

This isn’t the first for anything for Lebron James but he showed us why he is the King in leading the Cavs to victory against the Pistons. Although, Lebron just loves the first game of the NBA playoffs. Remember when he had a triple double in his first ever playoff game? Here are the highlights from nba.com. (more…)

Jason Kidd is number 3 in NBA All Time Assist List

April 06, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Around the NBA, Basketball News

Jason Kidd passed Magic Johnson for 3rd All Time in the NBA’s career assist List. This came on a game where Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks crushed the Suns’ playoff hopes with a convincing 140-116 win. He was able to reach the milestone, 10,142, in the second quarter on a dish to Josh Howard.

He had 16 assists in the first half and finished the game with 20 giving him a running total of 10,148. He received a standing ovation from the Mavericks’ crowd together with commentator Mark Jackson who is second in the list with 10,334. John Stockton is the all time assist leader with 15,806.

Kidd has been one of my favorite players of all time and it’s surprising how he has taken care of his health even after having a major knee surgery. Remember this guy is already 36 and he is still outplaying some of the younger guards. He has also been a surprise this year fantasy wise and to everyone who got him in the third round, your team must be doing well this year.

Here’s a video of Jason Kidd getting his 10,334th career assist:
