March 10, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Basketball Videos

This 2009 NBA season we have seen a myriad of injured – torn ACLs, collapsed lungs and many more and now we have Rudy Fernandez taking a hard fall. As he was on his way to a dunk, the Portland Trailblazers’ guard was fouled by Trevor Ariza, who was slapped with a flagrant foul call and should face a suspension. Fernandez was conscious after but was carried on a stretcher and brought to the hospital. This was precautionary as Fernandez was feeling some chest pains. We just hope that he comes back soon. Speedy recovery Rudy!

Want some Kobe Bryant news? Well, the Lakers star guard just became the youngest, at 30 years and 171 days old, to score 23,000 points in his career. That is quite an achievement for him to be a big part of NBA history – not that he hasn’t been already since Kobe’s 81 points is the second highest single-game point total in the NBA ever.

“It’s always fun whenever you talk about the history of the game,” Bryant said. “It’s always a tremendous honor.”

According to yahoo.com, “Wilt Chamberlain was formerly the youngest at 30 years, 176 days. He still ranks as the fastest to 23,000, reaching it in 606 games, while Bryant, who came straight from high school to the NBA, reached it in his 917th game.”

For his career, Kobe Bryant has averaged 25.1 points and won a scoring title. He has also won MVPs in the regular season and in the NBA Finals. Just last summer, he won an Olympic Gold Medal for the USA. What more can you ask from Kobe? What else should he accomplish in this league? How about winning the defensive player of the year award. Kobe Bryan is this year’s defensive player (not that he deserves it). It does sounds nice, isn’t it?
