Around the NBA: Notes and recap

October 29, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Around the NBA

The wait is over as the first two days of the 2009-2010 NBA season is over and done. We saw strong teams get beaten, players coming back (Mr. Arenas!), rookies who don’t play like one and more and more exciting plays. It’s just exciting isn’t it? So here are some of our thoughts from the first two days.

  • The Cleveland Cavaliers are 0-2 after losing to the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors. Lebron James has been fantastic in the first two games but we still think that their lineup isn’t that strong this year even with Shaq and new addition Anthony Parker around. The Cavs need to get things together or else…
  • Gilbert Arenas is back! We know it’s just one game but if you saw how he played he had thing in control on his way to a 29 point game where he had 9 assists. He didn’t record any assists but he shot well,10-21 from the field. It looks like the 2 years did his body good as he tries to revive his career.
  • We loved Andrew Bynum in his first game where he posted a line of 26 points, 13 rebounds while shooting 9-15 from the field and 8-10 from the line. We have a good feeling that he will stay healthy this year.
  • The Philadelphia 76ers really had a hard time against the Orlando Magic and we don’t like what we’re seeing with Elton Brand. As for Marreese Speights, this guy really looks like he will battle Samuel Dalembert for minutes and he could end up being their starter by December.
  • So much for Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy saying that Dwight Howard can hit close to 75% of his free throw attempts. He started the year going 3-6.

The Cavaliers Pre-Game Rituals Will Be Crazy This Season

June 26, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Basketball Videos

With Shaquille O’neal traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, certain questions may arise like will this be the Cavs year of winning it all? Or how will the Lebron James and Shaq work together? Or is Shaq the Dwight Howard stopper? There are just too many questions right now but for us, the most important one is…What kind of pre-game ritual will they do?

As most of us know, Lebron James started their family picture pose before their home games and interestingly, Shaq created his own pre game pose, which was directed at Lebron’s, where the Phoenix Suns players were like bowling pins and Shaq throwing an imaginary ball at them.

So with these two superstars and “clowns” in one team, I’d like to hear what you think will these two come up with. Let’s hear your suggestions in the comments below.

For inspiration, check out their own pre game ritual: (more…)

nba playoffs 2009: day 9

April 28, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Playoffs

We have got two teams battling it out against each other and making their series a playoff classic. I’m talking about the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls. It has got to be the most exciting series this year right?

Another series that’s looking really exciting is the one between the Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers have won their two games on game winning shots as the Magic are having a hard time closing out games. But in game 4, it looks like the Magic can also hit the game winning shot.

The Houston Rockets and the Portland Trailblazers are also battling it out but it seems that experience is really key in the playoff and the Rockets have a lot of it compared to the young Trailblazers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons match up is officially the most boring series this year. Why? (more…)

NBA Playoffs 2009: Day 1

April 19, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Playoffs

In the first day of the 2009 NBA Playoffs we saw a lot of firsts. We saw all star point guard Brandon Roy get his first playoff basket. We also saw D-Rose having the poise and leadership to play like a veteran and lead his team to victory. A great game between the Mavericks and the Spurs was also shown where the Mavericks won for the first time on the road in the playoff since 2006.

This isn’t the first for anything for Lebron James but he showed us why he is the King in leading the Cavs to victory against the Pistons. Although, Lebron just loves the first game of the NBA playoffs. Remember when he had a triple double in his first ever playoff game? Here are the highlights from nba.com. (more…)

April 13, 2009 By: Ongai Category: Fantasy Basketball, The Best and Worst of

The 2008-2009 regular season is about the be over and by now we should be rounding up on who are the top fantasy basketball players for this year. Half of the players in this list had an average draft pick in the first round while the rest were either in the second or the third rounds. This just goes to show that the players you draft in the first round might not produce top numbers. So here are your top ten players. (more…)

My 2009 NBA All Stars if I had my way

January 13, 2009 By: Ongai Category: All Star Game

After voting for my all stars at nba.com I checked the leaders of the 2009 Nba all star ballots. There were a lot of surprises in the top three of each position except the center slot. It made me realize that some players just have the fan support even if they’re not that deserving to be starting in their respective conferences. Or maybe the fans of other players really feel strong for the other players they voted in to be all stars.

Players like Tracy McGrady and Yi Jian Lian are in the top three of their respective positions in their conference. When it comes to their play it is a bit surprising but when you come to think of it, they have such a huge fan base that they can easily get into the starting lineups.

It was just surprising to see some big names not being at the top of the ballots or at least getting few more votes. Players like Joe Johnson, Brandon Roy and Danny Granger are some of the players I’d like to mention. One can argue that they’re up against bigger names like in Granger’s case, a player named Lebron James. Or for Brandon Roy who’s going up against Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and yes, the number two in guard spot ballots in the West, Tracy McGrady. But for Roy to just get 267,053 votes is just crazy. This guy is an all-star for me.

If I had my way this would be my 2009 NBA all-stars that you should see in Phoenix in February. (more…)
